Ascension Press-Marriage

Sacrament of Marriage

Engaged couples MUST meet with the pastor or pastoral associate before setting their wedding date. This initial meeting should be at least 6 months before the date they want for their wedding day.  The Church cannot guarantee a particular date for the wedding until after meeting with the priest. The purpose of this initial meeting is to make sure the date they want is available and that no conditions exist which would prevent them from being able to enter into marriage.

A Pre-Marriage Program is required. This program helps couples to deepen their understanding of marriage and their relationship with each other. Couples first undergo an assessment process with the parish priest or pastoral associate. The policy of the dioceses of the State of Wisconsin requires couples to take the “FOCCUS”, a marriage preparation assessment. FOCCUS is a premarital inventory that helps couples to examine many areas of married life. Couples must also attend a Marriage Preparation Day.
