A Place for You

We all want a place to call our own. Where we can hang our hat. A place that has everything just where we want it. When Jesus says He is going to prepare a place for you, what do you think of?

I have heard it explained as a mansion, or a room in a mansion. Our tendency is to think of something concrete, solid, with four walls. We are a people who think of everything in material terms.

But Jesus is talking about a spiritual place. Do spiritual places need four walls? Probably not. After all, Jesus walks through walls and locked doors. What good are walls and doors if you can walk through them?

Then what is this place Jesus is preparing for us?

It is Jesus. It is the Body of Christ. We celebrated the memorial for St Athanasius just a couple days ago. He said that God came down in His divinity and took on flesh that when we receive communion, we become divine, we are taken into Christ. The place that is prepared for you is Jesus.

Remember, He is the gate. No one can come to the Father except through Jesus. That means when we take on the divinity of Christ we can come to the Father. I can think of no other place I would rather be. Ever.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
