A Firm Purpose

What is your purpose? Or in other words, what do you want to be when you grow up? Some might say I am already grown up. Very good. Can you define what your purpose is? I know people who are in their seventies and eighties who still proclaim that when they grow up, they will be – something. It is in good fun. But can they look back at their lives and say this is my purpose, this is why I am here?

Everyone wants to be someone, to do something, that will improve or leave a message for this world. This sounds noble and virtuous and honorable. But it does not follow the teachings of our faith. What?!

True, we are instructed to trust in God. Not to focus on ourselves but on being a servant and a disciple of Jesus. Jesus is our rock, the solid foundation. We build our lives upon Jesus. Our purpose then is to serve the Lord. Not to worry about doing something great to gain prestige or recognition for ourselves but focusing all glory on God.

God has given us a purpose, to live our lives for Him, doing what He has given us to the best of our ability. If we focus on the little things in our lives, trust in Jesus, offering everything back to God, we in turn will be blessed with a glory beyond anything our imagination can contrive.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen
