Lent is coming! Where do we begin? Krystal Montgomery and Roland Flasch

January 28, 2024 – Krystal Montgomery and Roland Flasch

LENT IS COMING! WHERE DO WE BEGIN?

Some of us might dislike the Season of Lent… we “have to” give up things! We “have to” stop eating (insert favorite thing here) or we give up soda or alcohol. We “have to” fast and give up meat on Fridays. We “have to” be more intentional in the things we need to do on a daily basis. Why?

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops describes Lent as a 40 day season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. This is a period of preparation in anticipation of the Resurrection of the Lord at Easter. We seek the Lord in prayer, we serve by giving alms (acts of charity) and practice self control through fasting. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but also to a true conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ’s will more faithfully.

But where do we begin? Our Lenten Mission is a great place! Join us February 18-20 when we welcome Dr. Ray Guarendi, a nationally known Catholic media personality and clinical psychologist and author, to St. Joseph’s. His topics will include, standing strong as a parent and grandparent, men & women and marriage, and the logic of being Catholic. Each evening will include Mass at 5:30pm followed by dinner and our speaker.

So, what does your plan look like as we head into the season of Lent in a couple weeks?
