Happy Father’s Day
By Roland Flasch & Krystal Montgomery
This weekend we celebrate Father’s Day—a day to give thanks for the many ways God’s fatherly love is made visible in our world. We honor and pray for all fathers: biological, adoptive, foster, and spiritual. Each, in their own way, participates in the life-giving, guiding, and sacrificial love of God the Father.
We give thanks for our earthly fathers, those who have raised us, protected us, and taught us by their example. Their love, patience, and sacrifices often go unnoticed, yet they form the foundation of our families and our faith.
We honor the fatherhood of our priests, who are spiritual fathers. Their vocation is one of service, self-gift, and deep spiritual fatherhood, modeled after Christ the Good Shepherd. Just as earthly fathers mirror God’s love in the home, priests mirror God’s love in the Church. Both are called to lead, to protect, to
provide, and above all—to love.
On this Father’s Day, may we lift up all those who have embraced this holy calling, whether in the home or at the altar and entrust them to the care of St. Joseph, patron of both earthly and spiritual fathers.
A Prayer for All Fathers
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of fatherhood,
in every form it takes.
Bless all earthly fathers with wisdom, courage, and love
as they guide and protect their families.
May they reflect Your tenderness and strength in all they do.
Bless also our spiritual fathers, our priests,
who offer their lives in service to Your Church.
Strengthen them in holiness,
deepen their love for You and for Your people,
and grant them joy in their vocation.
For those who have lost a father,
for fathers who have lost children,
and for those who long to be fathers—
may they know Your deep and abiding love.
Through the intercession of St. Joseph,
faithful guardian, may all fathers be strengthened to live their calling
with humility, faith, and grace.
Through Christ our Lord,
Amen.
