July 30, 2023 – Reflection by Fr. Adam Laski
Peace in Christ,
“Behold the lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.”
During a time of Eucharistic Revival, I want to encourage our parishes to overcome any sort of participation in the Eucharist that seems perfunctory. If Mass is like this, we only think about showing up, putting our time in, and getting back to what we were doing as soon as possible.
Participation in the Holy Eucharist is an entrance into a Mystery. The ancient Christians have used the term Mystery to refer to the participation we have in the sacraments, but especially the mass.
The difference between perfunctory celebration in the Mass, where we just get in to get out and get done, and participation in a mystery is love. Love is the difference between a bored participation in the Mass, and recognizing that the protagonist of the Mass, the one we are their to encounter is the Lord of Heaven and earth. This is a Mystery worth unfolding. ~Fr. Adam Laski
