The Rice Lake Knights of Columbus invite our parish community to answer a call to charity that could not be more immediate or more life giving. On Tuesday, August 4, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, the Knights will sponsor an American Red Cross blood drive at the Rice Lake Knights Hall, and every donation given that day has the potential to save up to three lives.

The need is urgent. The American Red Cross has declared an emergency blood shortage and is calling on communities across the nation to respond. The Knights of Columbus, true to their long tradition of charity and service, are asking parishioners throughout our four parishes to prayerfully consider whether they are able to give this gift of life.

Scripture reminds us that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend, and while giving blood asks far less of us than that, it still flows from the same spirit of self-giving love. A single hour spent in the donor chair can mean the difference between life and death for a stranger, and that is a powerful way to live out our faith in service to our neighbor.

Appointments are highly encouraged to help the drive run smoothly and to ensure enough donors are available to meet the need. You may schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-733-2767 or by visiting redcrossblood.org and searching for the Knights of Columbus drive location.

We are grateful to the Knights of Columbus for organizing this opportunity for our parishes to serve, and we are grateful to everyone who steps forward to donate. Your generosity truly does replenish our nation’s blood supply and offers hope to families who are waiting.
