Our Lady of Lourdes Perpetual Adoration Chapel was the first perpetual adoration chapel in the Superior Diocese. It is celebrating 25 years this Wednesday, September 17th! It has been open to adorers since September 17, 2000.
To everyone who has participated in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel through these years…You have made this 25th Anniversary possible.
Shortly after Fr. David Oberts became pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes, he wanted to begin a perpetual adoration chapel. However, he never mentioned this to anyone, as he felt it needed to come from the laity if it was going to happen and be successful.
Two men who had been talking between themselves about the need for an adoration chapel, and feeling that Our Lady of Lourdes would be the ideal place, decided to approach Fr. Dave with their idea. Fr. Dave was delighted and contacted Bishop Raphael Fliss, who was the Bishop at the time, for permission to begin.
The next step was to learn the proper procedures. The Missionaries of the Blessed Sacrament were contacted, and a representative was sent to speak one evening. The word was spread about the event to many neighboring churches. People came from Rice Lake, Cameron, Barron, Chetek, Ladysmith, Cumberland, Sarona, Spooner, A and H, Hayward, and Webster. That night, all 168 hours were filled!
In 2003, a renovation was begun to make the Chapel more accessible. Stained glass was added to the open wrought-iron door to provide for quiet and privacy. While sitting in the front pew and looking at the door, Fr. Dave knew there was something missing. It was then that he was inspired to add the words, “Come To Me” above the doors.
Stone work, which was custom-made in Poland, was added to the wall for the placement of the monstrance. Two floor candle stands were also custom-made. Many, many people donated their time, talent, and treasure in creating our special Chapel. We are deeply grateful.
On behalf of all those who have spiritually benefited from the prayers offered and the graces poured out during the time spent with Our Lord. . . we thank Him and are eternally grateful.
