What does the Church have to say about artificial intelligence? As it turns out, quite a lot.

Pope Leo XIV signed his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, on May 15, 2026, and it was formally released by the Holy See on May 25. The document develops the Church’s social teaching in light of artificial intelligence, addressing questions of human dignity, labor, and the common good. National Catholic Register

The Holy Father reminds us that “in the era of artificial intelligence, when human dignity is threatened by new forms of dehumanization, ours is the pressing duty to remain profoundly human” and that “the splendor of humanity bestowed upon us and revealed in its fullness in Christ… no machine can ever replace.” The Holy See

Those are words worth sitting with together.

Our Four Parishes family is forming an informal reading group to explore Magnifica Humanitas as a community. We will read through the encyclical together and talk about what it means for our faith, our families, and our daily lives. Meeting times will be determined based on when participants are available.
