Dear Holy Trinity, St. John’s, Our Lady of Lourdes, and St. Joseph parishioners,
I want to firstly thank you all for your generosity over my last three years with you. Wow, three years have already passed by. I am excited to move on to serving those who serve in the Navy and Marine Corps as a Navy Chaplain, but I will miss all of you. My last weekend in the parish will be Labor Day Weekend. Then, I will have two weeks off to spend with my family and go on retreat, before, heading out to Newport, RI for 10 weeks of chaplain training. I will be spending sometime between 6 to 30 years in the US Navy. I do not know how long it will end up being due to many factors. I do, however, know that at the end of my time in the Navy, I will be returning to the Diocese of Superior. This parish cluster will always be a special place for me.
As I am leaving, I am grateful to know, that you will not only have the very capable and pastoral hands of Fr. Ed, but also be getting Fr. Adam Laski. Fr. Adam will also have responsibilities up at the chancery in Superior with Canon Law (you can ask him what that is). I am excited for you to have Fr. Adam serving you! Many of you know him as he grew up in Haugen, going to Holy Trinity. He is a priest in love with Jesus Christ, who will serve you with zeal and love. One of the many qualities that you will love about him, is that his homilies will be at least half as short as mine!
Due to upheaval of Covid-19, I am not comfortable having a large group gathering, but I do want to be able to express my gratitude for you. So, I will be more intentional after Masses the next month to stand outside greeting people as you leave. The weekend of August 29th & 30th at Our Lady of Lourdes and Holy Trinity and the weekend of September 5th & 6th at St. Joseph and St. John’s will be my last Masses to say goodbye.
Many times, people want to give cards and gifts as a sign of their appreciation. I wish I could give you all a card and gift individually, but unfortunately my greetings will have to be sufficient. If you would like to give me a card, I ask that you write something personal from what God did through me that touched you; so, I can keep the cards and pull them out when I need a pick-me-up in ministry. If you would like to give a gift, I ask that you make a donation to the Fr. Dennis Mullen Adoption Initiative Fund sponsored by the Rice Lake Knights of Columbus Council #2137. This is a new charity fund that I am super excited about. It is working to promote adoption and supporting those who are open to that gift of adoption. I will be donating all the monetary gifts I receive to this charity.
Lastly, thank you again, for these past three years. You all are awesome! I will be praying for you all. Please say a prayer for me especially before the Most Blessed Sacrament in Adoration.
Your Brother in Christ,
Fr. Samuel Schneider
