Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

October is a month dedicated to Mary and we do pray the Rosary before each Mass on the weekends. Please come early and join us in this prayer. I thought I might share with you that there are other various rosaries. Today is the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows. Their rosary is made a little different. Instead of the five sets of ten Hail Mary’s, their rosary is seven sets of seven Hail Mary’s. The rosary starts out differently, you can find many examples on YouTube. With each set of seven Hail Mary’s, they have an event of Mary’s life to offer for meditation as you recite the Hail Mary’s. Here is the list of seven dolor’s or sad events that happened in Mary’s life.

  1. The presentation of Jesus in the Temple
  2. The flight into Egypt
  3. Jesus being lost in Jerusalem
  4. The meeting of Mary and Jesus on the way to Calvary
  5. The Crucifixion
  6. The taking down of Jesus’ body from the cross
  7. His burial

The Servite Order, or The Order of the Servants of Mary lead a community life in the tradition of the mendicant orders, such as the Dominicans or Franciscans. They dedicated themselves to Mary under the title of Mother of Sorrows. Learn more about your faith. Take the time to look more on this very traditional and powerful method of life and prayer.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
