Children of Light

The days are beginning to grow noticeably shorter. Some of the sumac is beginning to glow bright red. Even some of the birch trees are starting to hint of a yellow halo. We are aware of the seasons. And of course, school has started. Last summer just seems like a blur. Was there a moment of peace? Schedules and plans tend to take over our lives, but they do not have to.

As children of light, we live in the light of Christ. Maybe some of you who are into books who help you plan your day remember the Franklin Planner? They were leaders in schedule books. What impressed me most about their system of planning the day was that the first item to accomplish for the day was prayer.  Yes, the first ten minutes at work were to be set aside for prayer no matter what faith profession you had or if you had no faith at all. Start the day with the best possible and that means prayer, speaking to God.

Now if that works for many people in the business world, should it not carry over into our private home life? I would suggest picking up a little prayer card, or a little statue of Jesus, or leave yourself a note in your coffee cup. Something to remind that to start this day right is to offer a prayer first thing in the morning. By the way, if you put a note in your coffee cup be sure to take the note out before you pour the coffee.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
