Plan B
It is too easy to get caught up in trying to determine if the five wise virgins should have shared oil with the foolish virgins. Rather we should always keep in mind that all parables are about God. Who He is, what He does, and how He does it. So, with that in mind, how is God working in this parable?
In typical God fashion, He shows up when He is least expected. For most of us I think we think we are somewhat prepared, right? I mean we say our prayers, most of the time, we forget occasionally. We go to mass most of the time, missing an occasional Sunday, right? We try to remember to give to the poor. We bring items to St Vincent de Paul. All of this is good, but the looming question: Is it enough? Only your heart can answer that question.
Plan B is acknowledging that our Plan A may not be good enough. Life is a good example of how our life is going. Let us do a short evaluation. When has your plan, Plan A, ever worked? With life complexities we often find ourselves into Plan B before we realize Plan A is not working. Now that is not a bad thing, unless Plan B does not have God as the first step. See, Plan A is what you think you should do. Plan B is what God wants you to do. Plan B always works when God is first. What is your Plan today?
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
