Not A Robot
I am not a robot. I am a human being. I try to be reasonable, rationale, and take time to think things through before deciding. Why, then, am I unreasonable, irrational, and impatient? It is because God gave us free will. We can choose. If we were robots, we would not need any laws. Our program would always tell us what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. So, therefore, no laws. Everything is controlled. As for relationships with other people, we would be programmed with the correct responses, we would not need relationships. We would always say the right thing at the right time. No one would ever be offended by something we said. There really would not be a need for relationships because we would no longer have feelings or emotions. We would not need them. They would not compute.
No, I am not a robot. God gave Moses the commandments to help us live our lives in love. There is another way to read the commandments that might help us understand. Read through the list again, but before each commandment say, “I am the Lord your God. I love you and want you to spend eternity with me, therefore you shall not have other gods before Me. I am the Lord your God. I love you and want you to spend eternity with me, therefore you shall not kill.” And so on.
We forget that God does love us and wants a relationship with us. I think of the commandments as bands of love reaching across from God to me. It is when I listen to God first that I am reasonable, rational, and patient. I could also add forgiving, kind, and understanding. What about you? Where are you?
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
