Fr Ed Homily 5-23-23: Scattered
Scattered
The disciples proclaim Jesus is talking plainly. They spoke too soon. Suddenly He says you will all be scattered.
Last weekend we celebrated a baccalaureate mass and an Eighth Grade Graduation Mass. Both were beautiful events. The graduates all look like shiny new pennies. They have grown with family and friends. Teachers and coaches have sacrificed time and patience with these young people. Many relationships have been developed.
But now the graduates will be scattered to many places. New friends, new acquaintances all await them. And what of the past? It is there in our memories. Yes, memories tend to fade. And chances are you may never see some of your past friends.
I love to listen to people share stories of their past. What is fascinating is when I am told an amusing anecdote but understand what they are talking about. They are laughing and I am confused. I guess you had to be there.
That brings us back to the gospel. The disciples will remember. The graduates will remember as they grow in faith. We will remember as well. Jesus is always with us.
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
