A Friend
Jesus calls us His friend. That reminded me of a song from long ago. Andrew Gold sang a song called Thank You For Being A Friend. Here are the lyrics.
Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down a road and back again
Your heart is true, you’re a pal and a confidant
I’m not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won’t you stand up and take a bow
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
Well, you would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
If it’s a car you lack
I’d surely buy you a Cadillac
Whatever you need, any time of the day or night
And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear, even though it’s hard to hear
I will stand real close and say
And when we die and float away
Into the night, the Milky Way
You’ll hear me call as we ascend
I’ll see you there, then once again
Jesus called us His friends. Not servants or slaves, but friends. Friends see themselves as sharing. Not necessarily in skills or talents, but something deeper. When your friend succeeds you find joy in their success. When a friend is depressed, you share in empathy their pain.
Who’s there for you? Have you thanked them? Thank you for being a friend.
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
