Caught
Ever been caught in a lie? Ever been caught stealing something? Ever been caught maligning someone in gossip? It is a terrible feeling. Your conscience kicks in, you feel a little flushed, embarrassed, and somewhat ashamed. What are your options? To continue in the lie hoping your deceit is not discovered. Or fall on your sword in humbleness, admit your error, and ask for forgiveness.
On the other hand, have you caught someone in a lie? Have you caught someone spreading falsities about you or someone? Have you caught someone stealing? Does your conscience kick in? Or do you become self-righteous and loudly accuse the perpetrator?
Today’s readings are all about being caught. Did you notice Jesus did not pay attention as to who was caught, or the people caught the person committing the sin. Rather He sought the conversion of sinners. Those that caught the perpetrator were sinners. He wanted them to soften their hearts and learn forgiveness. The person caught in sin He wanted a change of heart to sin no more.
How has Jesus caught you?
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
