Is He Talking about Jesus?

The book of Wisdom was written about fifty years before Jesus. Then how can his writings remind us so much about Jesus. He did not even know Jesus. Let’s look at several.

The Pharisees found Jesus to be obnoxious to them, so they began to devise every possible way to find a way to accuse him. Jesus reproached them for their lack of observance of the law. Jesus professed to have knowledge of God and styled himself to be a child of the Lord. Jesus judged the Pharisees to be debased when Jesus told His followers to listen to them but do not do what they do.

Remember Satan challenging Jesus in the desert if you are the son of God? God will defend you. Finally, Jesus is condemned to death. And just as with the last sentence of this reading, they did not count on a recompense of holiness nor discern the innocent souls’ reward. They had no idea of God and of His counsels.

When the Bible foretells of what is to come and it describes everything so well fifty years before it happens how can we possibly challenge its teachings? With faith, we come to believe. God did not leave us to find faith alone.

First, He placed it in our hearts. Second, HE gave us His Word through Scriptures, third He sent His son, and fourth He gave us His Church and sacraments. When in doubt about your faith, read the Bible. Listen to the great Church doctors. They have lived through everything, too. God has placed them in your life to help you.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
