Evil Generation

Here are links to our readings for the day:

Evil Generation

Such strong language from Jesus. The men of Nineveh will condemn this generation. When you look at the last sentence of the gospel reading would it not also apply to our generation? What would the men of Nineveh say of our generation? Dear people, are we any better?

The men of Nineveh listened to Jonah, the guy who was in the belly of a fish. And Jonah did all he could to see Nineveh destroyed. And all Jonah said was three days more and Nineveh will be destroyed. Would that work today? Some guy walking down the streets of Rice Lake proclaiming three days more and Rice Lake will be destroyed. Who would listen? How far would he get before being arrested?

Then I wonder what it will take to get people to wake up and listen. There is something more here. What does it take to get people back to the Church? There is something more here.

Church membership is declining. Fewer baptisms. Hardly any weddings. More funerals, however. Is this not a sign to our generation? Are we listening? If you are thinking this is terrible and you don’t know what to do are you then part of the evil generation? If you are not doing anything, then you are part of the evil generation.

The least you can do and most powerful thing you can do is pray. Do so. Volunteer. Every church needs more volunteers. Help with religious ed programs. There are so many things because there is something better than Jonah here.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen
