Story of God

Sometimes to understand what the gospel is teaching us we need to stop and remember what we know about God. Let’s do that now.

God is love so He wanted creatures to love. So, He made the angels. They are spirits so they don’t have bodies. They are also very smart. They are so smart that when they decide to do something they cannot change their mind. There was a group of angels that decided they wanted to be God. And they stopped loving God. There was a big fight in heaven, but St. Michael defeated the evil angels and cast them into hell, just like we say after mass in the St Michael prayer. With the evil angels gone, God still wanted to share His love, so He decided to make people. But this time if people make a bad decision God would be able to forgive them and give them a second chance through the sacrament of confession.

To have more people I think God stays very busy making babies. In this way He replaces the evil angels and because we are people, we know one day we will die. God will have to make a lot babies. God started out with grownups, but they take too much work. With babies God can have the parents help. They can teach them to talk and walk and they can learn about God from their parents. God’s next important job is listening to prayers. There are people who pray in the morning, during the day, and at night. I don’t know how He can listen to all those prayers. That’s why we should think carefully about what we pray for. We should remember to pray for the important stuff and not waste God’s time.

We remember we have one God, but God is three persons. One of those persons is Jesus, His Son. God must be three persons because with love you need to love someone, not just yourself. To just love yourself is just selfishness. And God loves all of us. Just like you have chores at home Jesus has His chores in heaven. He helps God the Father with listening to prayers. Together they determine how to answer everyone’s prayers. Jesus also worked very hard on earth telling people about God. He suffered and died on the cross and was raised and taken up to heaven. Jesus told God that the people did not know what they were doing, and they should be forgiven. God said OK.

You can pray anytime you want. God or Jesus are always on duty. Go to Church on Sunday because that makes God happy. Mom and Dad can’t always be with you but God can.

If God had a refrigerator your picture would be on it

If God had an iPhone, your picture would be in it

God sends a sunrise and a sunset every day.

God can live anywhere He wants to, but He chose to live in your heart. That is awesome.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen
