I Do Believe, Help My Unbelief
The man tells Jesus that his son, from very young until now has been possessed by a mute demon. The man says the demon has tried to kill his son many times.
His son has been thrown into fire. Slammed to the ground. His son is suffering greatly. Perhaps the son even hopes to die his suffering being so great. Why couldn’t Jesus’ disciples cast out this demon?
Did you catch Jesus’ answer? This kind (of demon) can only be cast out by prayer. Only by prayer. You see, parents always love their children. We always pray for them. From the time they are young till they are grown and have children of their own, we pray for them. And admittedly we wonder, do our prayers have any effect?
If I could shout to you right now you would hear a resounding YES! We may not think our prayers to be effective, but they are. We may not see an outcome that we want but God is using our prayers in ways we don’t understand.
We need faith like the boy’s father, “I do believe, help my unbelief.” Help us, Lord. Help us to trust in you. Watch over our children. Keep them safe. Keep them out of the fire. Bring them to heaven with you.
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
