The Immaculate Conception
People have been waiting for thousands of years for the Messiah to come. God has always taken His time in preparing the world for the Messiah. He is in no hurry. He knows exactly what He wants and how it is to happen.
That means He knows just exactly who the mother of His son will be. But the woman chosen to be the mother of His son, does she know who she is? Mary is being raised as a good Jewish girl. She is taught scripture. She is taught how to cook and to clean. She is taught to be a daughter of God through her faith.
Now we discover that God had a special plan for Mary. She was conceived without sin. A perfect human being has been created by God to be the mother of His Son. In many ways she is just like Eve, the first woman. But Eve sinned and from that moment on we bear the pain of sin.
Mary, conceived without sin bears a son without sin. From that moment on the world changes as redemption has been brought into the world to reconcile our fallen state. The first Adam failed in sin. The second Adam, Jesus defeats sin and death. Jesus, before his conception, has redeemed his mother. Thus, Mary is conceived without sin.
God’s redemption for all people now has a foundation, Mary. We can always turn to Mary as she will lead us to her Son. Just as the world waited for the first coming of Christ, we wait for the second coming of Christ.
People did not know what to expect or what to do at the first coming. Fortunately, we have Mary as our teacher and Mother. This Advent prepares ourselves for the coming of her Son, Jesus.
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and if the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
