Genealogy
This gospel lists the genealogy leading up to Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, the husband of Mary, the Mother of God. In Jewish culture, there was no such thing as a foster father, you are the father. All foster fathers and all stepfathers need to take this gospel to heart. God has called you to a special vocation of fatherhood that will try your patience and humble your heart many times over. But always know, you are just as much a father as a biological father; pray to St Joseph.
With all these names in this gospel passage, I decided I wanted to be able to say their names correctly. I studied them all. Learned some people were good, some not so good, some very bad, others very good. I even discovered there are some missing. And there are four women in this list. Jesus comes from a remarkably diverse and challenging background. This indicates once again that Jesus comes for all people, all cultures. All people are loved by God and God has assigned His Son to die for us in order that we will live forever in the Kingdom of God.
What is your DNA? I pray that whatever your ancestry you recall you are sons and daughters of God in the Kingdom of Heaven that Jesus started here on earth.
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
