Rejoicing Among the Angels

Traditionally the month of November in the Church reminds us of our deceased sisters and brothers. The readings therefore often bring up the theme of judgment. We are concerned not only for ourselves and our judgment but also for our loved ones. We really want everyone to be in heaven, and God made everyone to be with Him in heaven, unfortunately many do not desire heaven.

For those of us who want to be in heaven that thought just seems absurd. Who would not want to be in heaven? When we have to stand in front of the Lord to give an account of ourselves how will we respond? If we have been in the business of judging others, then we must realize we will be judged in the same way. If we have been forgiving and offering mercy, our outcome will be with forgiveness and mercy. The time to have a change of heart is right now.

Perhaps that is why the parable of the lost sheep, and the lost coin, are associated with this letter from St. Paul. To discover who we are takes time and perseverance. When we discover something that we do not want or are lacking, we need to make a change. Hopefully the change draws us closer to God. With each change there is rejoicing among the angels. Yes, the time to have a change of heart is right now. What needs to be changed in your heart?

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
