The Anchor
Hebrews gives us an example we do not often consider. Jesus is described as our anchor on the other side of the veil. The veil: the difference between life here on earth as compared to eternal life in heaven. Jesus is in heaven and we are connected to Him through baptism. We are sons and daughters of God through Jesus’ sacrifice of love. We have bands of love flowing from Jesus to each of us.
We can increase and strengthen those bands of love by how we live our lives. The Pharisees were religious people, but they were bound by their traditions and rules. In fact, they were so bound by tradition that their tradition has become their god, an idol that was more important than God’s people.
Jesus tells us that the sabbath (a tradition) was made for man not man for the sabbath. Take a moment to consider your life. What is most important? Where do you spend your time?
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
