Who Is the Bridegroom?
(For the first school mass this year.) The Pharisees are asking Jesus an important question. Then Jesus starts talking about the bridegroom and a wedding feast.
How can you fast when you are at a wedding? They have all kinds of food and cake. I think all that food is very tempting. And don’t we celebrate by having lots of food? I wonder, who is the bridegroom? And who is the bride in this story?
Has everyone been to a wedding? I have been to a lot of weddings. I find them to be a lot of fun. The bride and the bridegroom are so much in love. The families share in the love of the bride and bridegroom. They are looking forward to starting a new life for themselves.
The parents of the bride and bridegroom are very happy that their children have grown up and now they want to start their family. Starting a new family is a bit scary but they have a strong faith and will trust in God to teach them how to have a family.
Maybe that is why they say you can’t put a new skin on the old wineskin because it will tear. The bride and bridegroom are the new skin. They love their parents but now they are to love one another more.
They are to love one another more. Who do know that loves you the most? I think it must be Jesus. He loves us more than anything else.
Then I think we can say Jesus is the bridegroom. And when Jesus is with us, we can celebrate. That is why we celebrate every mass Jesus being here with us.
If Jesus is the bridegroom, who is the bride? The people Jesus loves most of all. All of us together are the bride. Jesus considers us His family. We need to invite Him into our homes and into our lives today.
May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
