The Greatest

There once was a boxer who referred to himself as The Greatest. His name was Muhammad Ali.

True, for a time he was the greatest boxer in the world. But like all who strive for greatness cannot maintain that level for long and he was beaten. And even though he was great at one time he suffered greatly from so many blows to his head. Concussion after concussion destroyed his brain. What he accomplished in his youth he sacrificed in his final years. He could not enjoy even the simplest pleasures.

Heaven is not a game that we are out to win. No, it is where God wants us to be in His Presence. There will be different places for those who struggled and strived on earth to do God’s Will. Just as in the Gospel, those who teach and follow His commandments will be the greatest in heaven. Those who teach others to break the commandments will be the least.

Of course, we all want to get to heaven. Then we each need to become as holy as God wants us to be. The only way to do that is to struggle and strive to follow the commandments and teach others. Let’s not grow lazy, just trying to get by, but through love reach for God.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen
