Reading

We are reading the Acts of the Apostles as we go through Easter season. What a blessing it is to read about the efforts to evangelize and spread the faith.

Then we need to stop and remember that the disciples did not have a Bible or any other written material. It was all by memory. And we know now that they worked hard to preserve their memories by memorizing every detail. They realized they needed to be accurate because they were going out to all parts of the world.

Today we have unlimited access to many kinds of written materials. It is important that we as adults and grandparents try to encourage our children to read over the summer. To that end we are starting a new reading program. Here are the details.

It is very important that children read throughout the summer.  Reading skills encompass every aspect of your child’s school day.  The readathon is an incentive program that encourages and rewards summer reading. This program is for students that have learned to read or are learning to read – ideally for students who have finished Kindergarten+.

All incoming 2022-2023 1st grade – 7th grade students are invited to participate. There are several great prizes for those that participate. Copies of the Read-a-Thon challenge sheets are being sent home in today’s Thursday Folder. Additional copies can be picked up in the cluster office or printed from the website at https://sjsricelake.org/summer-read-a-thon/.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen
