Purple Rain

Prince wrote and sang this song. Many interpretations have been given; you can choose your own.

Still, when he sings, I only wanted to see you laughing, that is very much seeking the virtue of joy and happiness. This leads to the question what makes you laugh?

In Acts today we hear the story of Lydia, a woman businesswoman dealing in purple cloth. It is unusual for a Roman woman to have her own business making this story even more fascinating. As you read this story look for the hand of God guiding Lydia and Paul.

The Spirit directed Paul to this woman. She was a worshipper of God, but the Spirit opened her heart to what Paul said. It is as if God was raining his graces down abundantly on everyone where the joy of the moment drives them all to seek baptism.

If I were to stay with the Purple Rain title for today you might wonder if we could see God’s grace it just might be purple, a color of royalty. God wants us all to be happy and joy filled.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen
