Good Friday
Lent ended with the beginning of the Holy Thursday liturgy yesterday evening. These are the most holy days of the Church year. This liturgy of Good Friday ends with the Communion consecrated last evening. The tabernacle sits empty with open doors. There are no Masses celebrated on earth today. We quietly await the Vigil Mass of Easter. Jesus’ earthly mission is complete; it is now handed on to us.
La Cuaresma terminó ayer por la noche con el comienzo de la liturgia del Jueves Santo. Estos son los días más santos del año de la Iglesia. Esta liturgia del Viernes Santo termina con la Comunión consagrada la noche anterior. El tabernáculo está vacío con las puertas abiertas. No hay Misas celebradas en la tierra hoy. Esperamos en silencio la Misa de Vigilia de Pascua. La misión terrena de Jesús está completa; ahora se nos entrega.
We are made in the likeness and image of God. God gave us free will. Which we use to make the wrong choices all too often. In this Gospel of John’s, we learn how Jesus, fully human and fully divine, uses His free will to do the Will of God. He took on our infirmities. He took on our punishments for sin. We hear how His disciples deserted Him. He was mistreated, scourged, and punished for our redemption. It is unfortunate that so many people live today without once thinking of Jesus and His Passion.
Estamos hechos a semejanza e imagen de Dios. Dios nos dio libre albedrío. Que usamos para tomar decisiones equivocadas con demasiada frecuencia. En este Evangelio de Juan, aprendemos cómo Jesús, completamente humano y completamente divino, usa su libre albedrío para hacer la Voluntad de Dios. Él tomó nuestros pecados. Él tomó nuestros castigos por el pecado. Escuchamos cómo sus discípulos lo abandonaron. Fue maltratado, azotado y castigado por nuestra redención. Es lamentable que tantas personas vivan hoy sin pensar ni una vez en Jesús y Su Pasión.
Christ, as God, cannot die. Christ as a human can suffer and die. He did this for our redemption. To show us that we need to take up our cross and follow Him. What Jesus did for us comes from His Love for us. Now the mission is ours. From His Love we are to take Christ out into the world. Helping others take up their cross and become part of this mission of Love. Spend some time in the Presence of the Lord today.
Cristo, como Dios, no puede morir. Cristo como ser humano puede sufrir y morir. Él hizo esto para nuestra redención. Para mostrarnos que necesitamos tomar nuestra cruz y seguirlo. Lo que Jesús hizo por nosotros viene de Su Amor por nosotros. Ahora la misión es nuestra. De Su Amor podemos sacar a Cristo al mundo. Ayudar a otros a tomar su cruz y formar parte de esta misión de Amor. Pasa algún tiempo en la Presencia del Señor hoy.
