Ask, I Will Give It to You

Unbelievable! If God made you this offer, what would you ask for? ‘Ask for anything and I will give it to you.’ There are a million different ideas running through our minds. A million possibilities. Would you make an instant decision? Would you ponder the question for a time? Would you ask, “What’s the catch?”

Another thought comes to mind. God gives us what we need. That means He knows what we need before we ask. Is it possible that God only asks this question to those who will not ask for a million dollars or some other selfish thing? Is it possible that God does not ask those who may ask for something really great, like peace in the world, because that is not part of God’s plan right now?

Remember, Solomon recognized that he was young and inexperienced. He prayer for wisdom to rule God’s people with righteousness. Did God grant this request because that was what was best for God’s people?

Maybe all this is too much for a Saturday morning! Still, it is an intriguing and perplexing challenge for us to consider. I think the best thing to do is to keep in mind that God offers each of us many opportunities every day for our consideration. All we need to do is ask, and God will give it to us. God knows what we need.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
