The Spirit, Baptism, & Communion

John finally gets to the point. Do you have faith in Christ? If you do, your deeds should convict you of being a Christian. If not, you need to look to the signs Jesus has offered. First, the breaking through of the Spirit when Jesus is baptized. We hear God’s voice proclaiming: This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. The Spirit testifies to Jesus as being the Son of God.

John speaks of the water and blood. With water signifying baptism and blood signifying Holy Communion, we see what Jesus left us in the sacraments of the Church. The overabundance of grace showered on each of us, bringing us all closer to Jesus. Testifying to the fact that Jesus is the Son of God, through us. It is our belief. We can now testify with love to others that Jesus is the Son of God.

As more people come to know and experience Jesus through His teaching and healing, His notoriety begins to spread. Jesus does not allow this to overtake His mission. He keeps focused on God through prayer. This is the example Jesus gives to us. Stay focused on God through prayer. Do not let the daily tasks and concerns overcome your mission to love and serve God.

May the Lord bless you in the name of the Father and if the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
